Calaveras are skeleton figurines that are used mostly during Dia De Los Muertos to honor those who have passed away and will often feature characteristics of the deceased’s personality.

Nichos are like mini shrines. Richly decorated, they contain images to which one is inclined to worship. The little windows opens up revealing a box for storing additional sacred items, like the lock of hair from a loved one.

Milagros are traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings.  They can be offered to a as a reminder of a petitioner’s particular need, or in gratitude for a prayer answered. Chances are we have the perfect Milagro for your altar.

Papel Picado is the traditional art of hand cutting brightly colored tissue paper. The streamers are used as decorations for all occasions. We carry several sizes and images.

DECKS

Fantasma focuses more on obscure decks as opposed to the traditional Rider-Waite type decks. For example, the Eros Oracle deck, which is a romance deck with a beautiful and clever art deco design or The Tarot Of The Dead, which uses skeletons and death in a humorous, non-diabolical form. We also carry two locally handmade decks by Rose Covert (pictured below) and by Caffeine and her daughter, Robin.

Alchemic Line, 7 Sisters of NO, and Conjure Oils

In addition to The Alchemic Line pure essential oils, we carry a variety of anointing oils from Seven Sisters of New Orleans and Lucky Mojo Curio Company, as well as several oil blends of “fine fragrances, magical & mundane” from Conjure Oils.

In candle magic, there are three main categories of candles: the main Altar (invocational) candle, which are lit to call on a specific deity or a specific power; the personal (astral) candle, which represent the individual; the purpose (offertory/petition)  candle, which carry the desire into the cosmic.

Altar candles: this candle should be the largest candle on the altar. The altar candle should not burn out before the petition candle goes out.

Astral candles: these must burn throughout the entire ritual along with the purpose candle.  You may place a picture of yourself or the person whom the candle represents in front of the candle, or carve initials into it, etc to further personalize it.

Petition candles: it is possible to achieve results with using just this candle. The altar and astral candles are embellishments that add symbolism and majesty to a ritual.

When performing candle magic it’s important to remember to set up your altar in a low traffic area since most spells require burning the candle till it goes out.

Unfortunately I am unable to generate the income that I need to support my family so I’m throwin’ in the towel and returning to the regular work force. It’s been really wonderful serving my community these past 2 years. Lots of love and appreciation to all.

Spell kits are made up of unique combination of roots, stones, curios, and oils that, when used together, strengthen the qualities of each other resulting a powerfully charged tool. Artist of the Month: Shane Mayhem

“Shane was raised Catholic, and now considers himself a Catholic-flavored Agnostic Deist with pagan undertones.  He’s lived in the Portland area for most of his life after a short stint spent traveling around the world with Air Force parents.  He spent six years in the Air National Guard himself, but now has lots of “free time” to rediscover things like painting and writing.  The rest of the time, he’s highly concerned with things like coffee, philosophy, radical politics, the environment, and watching British sci-fi.  He is a highly unbalanced Libra.”

New At Fantasma

Books by Lupa
Lupas books were recommended to me by a customer last week. S/he has written several books on the spiritual and magical uses of animal parts, so naturally I was intrigued. I called Lupa and a few days later s/he arrived at the shop with a selection of titles in hand. We had a great conversation and I am so excited to be adding hir writings to the catalog! AND, s/he was nice enough to sign each copy.

Lupa also makes various ritual items from animal bones and skins, including pouches, rattles, and rune sets (just to name a few). I will be carrying some of these amazing tools very soon, I hope!

Hello lovelies, I hope everyone is finding ways to survive the final days of winter. The sun is on its way, so keep on hanging in there. In the meantime, here’s whats happening around here this month….

February Workshop – Candle Magic Fundamentals
Tuesday, February 16th
6:00pm – 8:00pm

Description: The first part of the workshop will cover the different candles, their general uses, and color significance. Followed by information on how to dress a candle, read the wax, and properly dispose of used candles.  During the second half, I’ll give a couple of examples of candle magic spells. 

Cost: Sliding Scale $5.00 to $20.00

Last Thursday
Fantasma will be open late on Last Thursday (the 25th) until 9:00pm. Caffeine, our wonderful tarot reader, will be at the shop after 3:00pm doing readings.

Yule is upon us. Yule begins around December 21st. The Winter Solstice with its long nights, also marks the rebirth of the Sun. Each Season is celebrated with the knowledge that each part of the cycle relies upon the others in order for the Wheel of the Year to keep turning and for life to thrive and prosper. Don’t fret the long, cold nights my friends, the warm light will return.

This is my favorite time of the year for reflecting on the events of the past year. Sometimes this is about spending time alone and healing, reading fantasy novels and going to bed early. Other times its about celebrating, spending time with family and friends, making food and magick together.
