June Artist
“My name is J. Arthur Kurtti, and I dig cats and pyramids, the curious and the mysterious. Influenced by Life & Death, Emotion, Rock Music and Fashion, I am embarking on a journey as a multi-media artist. The academic study of Art and Design helps ground my sensibilities in the material world and keeps my head on a tether. Drawing has been a passion and outlet since early childhood and I had little outside instruction until college. The Marvel Universe fueled my left brain with enough glorified sexiness and violence to ignite the burning coal of illustrated desire and graphic carnage that lie dormant in my soul. This latest attempt to display a fractal of my interior ruminations entitled, “Pieces of 8 and The Pillars of Hercules”, represent a collection of stimuli associated with dark matters concerning the advancement of Western Civilization and the associated graphic ephemera therein.”

There are now 3 kits available under the Fantasma label! Mojo Bag Kits, Mini Altar Kits, and Jar Spell Kits.
Spell kits are made up of unique combination of roots, stones, curios, and oils that, when used together, strengthen the qualities of each other resulting a powerfully charged tool. In addition to the kits, there are one of a kind dressed candles, and Mini Bottle Spells available under the Fantasma label.
Artist of the Month: Shane Mayhem
“Shane was raised Catholic, and now considers himself a Catholic-flavored Agnostic Deist with pagan undertones. He’s lived in the Portland area for most of his life after a short stint spent traveling around the world with Air Force parents. He spent six years in the Air National Guard himself, but now has lots of “free time” to rediscover things like painting and writing. The rest of the time, he’s highly concerned with things like coffee, philosophy, radical politics, the environment, and watching British sci-fi. He is a highly unbalanced Libra.”
Last Thursday
Jumnah, from the Alchemic Line, will be in the shop after 3:00pm talking about her extraordinary products and answering your questions about essential oils. A second generation Alchemist, Jumnah is extremely knowledgeable of flowers and their infinite healing qualities.
Caffeine will also be in the shop after 3:00pm offering 11 card spread tarot readings. Sliding scale: $5 – $30. For more info on Caffeine, visit the Fantasma website.
Elli, from Bone Fetish, will be tabling in front of the shop all day. If you’ve been into Fantasma lately you might have seen her work. Elli makes wonderful bone and feather crafted jewelry. For more on Bone Fetish, visit: www.etsy.com/shop/BoneFetish.

New At Fantasma
Books by Lupa
Lupas books were recommended to me by a customer last week. S/he has written several books on the spiritual and magical uses of animal parts, so naturally I was intrigued. I called Lupa and a few days later s/he arrived at the shop with a selection of titles in hand. We had a great conversation and I am so excited to be adding hir writings to the catalog! AND, s/he was nice enough to sign each copy.
Lupa also makes various ritual items from animal bones and skins, including pouches, rattles, and rune sets (just to name a few). I will be carrying some of these amazing tools very soon, I hope!
From The Green Wolf website, a little about Lupa: “I use the term pagan for simplicity’s sake, though more accurately I’m a totemist, an animist and a pantheist. I have been studying pagan religions and magical topics for twelve years and practicing for ten years.”
For more information on Lupa, go to: http://www.thegreenwolf.com/
The Collective Tarot
The 2nd edition of The Collective Tarot is finally here! Since these are a limited edition print, each deck is numbered. I have 166/750 and 168/750 left (out of the 10 copies I received last week). Only $25.
For more information on The Collective Tarot, and to see what some of the artwork looks like, go here: http://www.eberhardtpress.org/catalog/collectivetarot.php
Last Thursday
Special Guest
Jumnah Rau, maker of the Alchemic Line 100% pure essential oils, will be in the store after 3pm. She’ll be selling a number of her products and answering your questions about essential oils. A second generation alchemist, Jumanah is highly knowledgeable about the effects of oils on the mind and body and how they can stimulate the energy around us. You don’t want to miss this!
The March of San Maximon
Begins at The Nest on 19th & Alberta
“This town is full of godless heathens. In fact, I bet pretty much everyone reading this is a blasphemous infidel. But the time has come to bring religion to this wasteland! Well, perhaps not the god part of religion, but damned if we are going to let Catholics have all the fun with the goofy costumes and rituals and whatnot. Enter: San Maximon (also sometimes known as San Simon). Not your parent’s saint! The patron saint of gamblers, drunkards, ne’er-do-wells and the like, San Maximon adores a good time. Present him with offerings of booze, cigarettes, cash money, etc., and he may answer your prayers and keep you safe from your own revels for another year. Holy Week is fast approaching, and along with it, the traditional Fiesta de San Maximon and our pilgrimage. Follow the shrine from bar to bar as we bring some serious old-time religion to Last Thursday. Sermons will be heard! Communion will be given! Beer will be drunk! A pornata will be decimated! Passerby will be converted! And most of all, we will celebrate, revere, and worship our holy redeemer, San Maximon.”

As promised, here’s the info on this months artist:
Artist Bio
Rose Covert always has something underneath her nails.
On a good day they are stains and residues leftover from the midst of
her making…
On any other day you’d better ask her for a map of the places those hands have been.
The paintings, collages, drawings and casts up at Fantasma Jan 6th to 31st
were chosen for the implicit way they wear their magic
on their metaphorical sleeves.
These images imply, allude to and overtly sneer at the
mystery, ceremony, and sweaty dance
that is creating.

Holiday Detox movie night: Consuming Kids
“Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children’s advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world. Consuming Kids pushes back against the wholesale commercialization of childhood, raising urgent questions about the ethics of children’s marketing and its impact on the health and well-being of kids.” Written by The Media Education Foundation
The movie starts at 5:00pm at Fantasma. All ages welcome, as well as crafts & childcare across the street at the Star E Rose Cafe.

December 3, 2009
Yule is upon us. Yule begins around December 21st. The Winter Solstice with its long nights, also marks the rebirth of the Sun. Each Season is celebrated with the knowledge that each part of the cycle relies upon the others in order for the Wheel of the Year to keep turning and for life to thrive and prosper. Don’t fret the long, cold nights my friends, the warm light will return.
This is my favorite time of the year for reflecting on the events of the past year. Sometimes this is about spending time alone and healing, reading fantasy novels and going to bed early. Other times its about celebrating, spending time with family and friends, making food and magick together.
Speaking of making magick……
CUSTOM TAROT DECKS
Rose Covert is making custom tarot decks for the holidays. She is currently working on a custom unicorn deck. Have her custom make a deck for you or for a loved one. See a sample of her work here.
Call Fantasma for more information on custom Rose Covert tarot decks.

Make a purchase at Fantasma anytime during December and receive a coupon good for 10% off a future purchase. Excludes purchases made on consignment items.
GIFT CERTIFICATES
Give the gift of magick this year. Gift Certificates for Fantasma are available in any denomination. Gift Certificates for a one hour tarot reading with Caffeine are only $25.
Caffeine does readings at Fantasma every other Thursday from 11:00am – 7:00pm, and is also available for outside appointments. Call the shop to schedule a reading for Thursday, December 17th.
